JOB DESCRIPTION  


JOB TITLE:                        IT Intern
DEPARTMENT:                Information Technology – Project Management
REPORTS TO:                   IT Project Coordinator


 JOB SUMMARY

For a student seeking a degree in a field associated with Computer Science, Security or Management Information Systems, provide the opportunity to have an integrated work experience in the healthcare information technology field, and the opportunity to job shadow as well as work on a variety of Healthcare IT projects.  Responsible for the implementation of projects within St. Luke’s University Health Networks IT Innovations Program. Develop and manage project charters, work plans, communication plans, issue logs and risk processes. Ensure changes follow change management procedures and protocols, create and maintain all documentation for assigned applications. Works with the Communications Coordinator to communicate all project changes, enhancements and procedures to necessary departments.

WORK PERFORMED

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.      Orientation (2 days)
2.      Review of Hospital and Information Management
3.      Special Projects: (3 months) This will be assigned by the Employee responsible for working with the Co-Op/Intern.
4.      Review of Technical, Application, and Security Assessment: Job Shadowing and Knowledge Transfer.
5.      Focused Job Shadowing (OJT) (5 weeks) Working specifically in Project Management for Innovations.
6.      Overview of Project Management
7.      Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.

8.      Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements. 

9.      Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).

10.   Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.

11.   Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.


 OTHER FUNCTIONS:

Performs other duties as requested by the Manager.


PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Requires sitting for up to 7 hours per day, 2 hours at a time.  Frequently uses fingers for typing, data entry, etc.  Frequent use of hands.  Extensively uses mouse as a computer entry device.  Uses upper extremities to rarely lift up to 10 pounds.  Occasionally stoops, bends or reaches shoulder level.  Hearing as it relates to normal conversation.  Seeing as it relates to general vision, near vision, peripheral vision and visual monotony.  Spends considerable time viewing computer screen.  

POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS

MOST COMPLEX DUTY
Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects. 

SUPERVISION (RECEIVED AND/OR GIVEN):  Manager, Information Services

COMMUNICATION:
Must communicate frequently in a professional and diplomatic manner with medical staff and 
hospital departments.  Must possess excellent writing skills.  Continually advises Manager, Information Services of any areas requiring immediate attention.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
Must be currently enrolled or recently completed a 2 or 4 year degree in Business. Computer Science, Security and/or Engineering.
 
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
·                  0-4 years
·                  Java, C#, .Net or other programming skills nice to have
·                  Aptitude or interest in Project Management Networking, Servers, applications and computer hardware, Data Analysis, Strategic Analysis, IT/Systems, Management Information Systems, Project Management, Building Business Cases with Business Leaders, Operational Workflow Analysis, Requirements Gathering and Reporting, Data Management, Database Management

 
WORK SCHEDULE
Day shift with varying hours based on the needs of the department.
