JOB TITLE:                        IT Intern - Marketing
DEPARTMENT:                Information Technology
REPORTS TO:                   Communications Coordinator


 JOB SUMMARY

For a student seeking a degree in a field associated with Marketing, Communications or Business OR Computer Science, Security, Management Information Systems, provide the opportunity to have an integrated work experience in the healthcare information technology field, and the opportunity to job shadow various positions of interest as well as work on a variety of Healthcare IT projects. The Marketing Intern will be responsible for assisting the Innovations department in the development and implementation of its marketing, business development, and public relations plans.

WORK PERFORMED

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.      Orientation (2 days)
2.      Review of Hospital and Information Management
3.      Special Projects: (3 months) This will be assigned by the Employee responsible for working with the Co-Op/Intern.
4.      Review of Technical, Application, and Security Assessment: Job Shadowing and Knowledge Transfer.
5.      Focused Job Shadowing (OJT) (5 weeks) Working specifically in Communications and Marketing for the IT Innovations Program.
6.      Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.

7.      Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements. 

8.      Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).

9.      Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.

10.   Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.


 OTHER FUNCTIONS:

11.   Assist with business development per the marketing strategy

12.   Assist with development of creative concepts and marketing strategies for promoting the work the Innovations team is doing for the Network


13.   Develop content for promotional materials including direct mail pieces, print and electronic newsletters, web site and social media stories, medial releases, and other materials as needed.

14.   Assist with visits and/or arranging meetings with persons responsible for meeting with clients or sponsors

15.   Assist in coordinating various marketing methods including, direct mail, print ads, networking, internet, social media, and develop new methods of marketing

16.   Prepare, rewrite and edit copy to improve readability of documents and/or products


PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Requires sitting for up to 7 hours per day, 2 hours at a time.  Frequently uses fingers for typing, data entry, etc.  Frequent use of hands.  Extensively uses mouse as a computer entry device.  Uses upper extremities to rarely lift up to 10 pounds.  Occasionally stoops, bends or reaches shoulder level.  Hearing as it relates to normal conversation.  Seeing as it relates to general vision, near vision, peripheral vision and visual monotony.  Spends considerable time viewing computer screen.

MOST COMPLEX DUTY
Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects. 

SUPERVISION (RECEIVED AND/OR GIVEN):  Communications Coordinator

COMMUNICATION:
Must communicate frequently in a professional and diplomatic manner with medical staff and 
hospital departments.  Must possess excellent writing skills.  Continually advises Manager, Information Services of any areas requiring immediate attention.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
Must be currently enrolled or recently completed a 2 or 4 year degree in Marketing, Communications, or Business OR Computer Science, Security and/or Engineering.
 
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
·                  0-4 years
·                  Java, C#, .Net or other programming skills nice to have
·                  Aptitude or interest in Marketing, Communications, Business, Project Management Networking, Servers, applications and computer hardware, Data Analysis, Strategic Analysis, IT/Systems, Management Information Systems, Project Management, Building Business Cases with Business Leaders, Operational Workflow Analysis, Requirements Gathering and Reporting, Data Management, Database Management

 
WORK SCHEDULE
Day shift with varying hours based on the needs of the department.
