Wernersville State Hospital yearlong IT internship information

My name is Will Edwards. I am the IT Department Head at Wernersville State Hospital.

We are seeking applicants for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Human Services Engineering Scientific and Technical Intern program at Wernersville State Hospital. We will offer the (2) chosen applicants a yearlong internship at $13.97 per hour, working 20+ hours a week when classes are in session, and up to 37.5 hours a week during semester and vacation breaks. Interviews are expected to be held March 9th, 2020 through March 18th, 2020. The internship will run from May 11th, 2020 until April 30th, 2021.

This internship is open to college students who will be a junior or senior during the 2020/2021 school year and who are willing to commit to working the entire time frame and hours mentioned above. Work hours, especially during the time period that classes are in session will be flexible within the parameters of your school schedule, course load, and day time IT office hours. (7 am – 3 pm weekdays)

Wernersville State Hospital will provide an opportunity for the student intern to develop skills with various facets of IT support and troubleshooting and applying basic help desk and computer technical skills. The student will be able to develop interpersonal skills through interactions with the Information Technology staff and other hospital employees. The student will gain insight into employer and workplace expectations of employees and their job performance. Opportunities will be presented in which the student will be able to develop writing, oral, organizational, and technological skills.

Work in this internship will involve working with databases, scripting, and duties in all phases of computer help desk and technical trouble shooting and repair. The student will be asked to take part in doing computer maintenance, inventorying of equipment, configuring and rollout of equipment, basic troubleshooting, user training, and many other tasks that fall under the duties of a computer technician. The intern will also provide support with audio-visual equipment, security video applications, teleconference & video conference equipment, phones, and digital signage equipment. Other non-technical duties may include general office duties that would normally take place in the Information Technology office, such as filing, typing, inventory verification, and interacting with other employees.

A general aptitude for working with computers and Microsoft Windows 10 and Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access are required. Interns will receive In Service training for the hospital and IT office, and will receive on the job training.
